Melanie Adele Martinez came into the spotlight when she appeared on third season of The Voice in 2012. Now she has a full-fledged music career. She grew up idolizing many popular pop acts as a child. She names Shakira, The Beatles, Tupac, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears as influences. As a matter of fact, when Martinez auditioned for The Voice, she performed “Toxic” by Britney Spears.
Her “Toxic” performance was anything but as Blake Shelton, Cee Loo Green, and Adam Levine all jockeyed to be her mentor. With Adam Levine as her coach, Melanie was sent home in week five via fan vote. After she left the show, the singer/songwriter released her first single, “Dollhouse.” The artist decided to shoot video to accompany the song. She got the project fan-funded through an Indiegogo page. Her friends took care of hair, makeup, and shooting. The song was a huge success, being used in a teaser for the show Pretty Little Liars. This notoriety got her video over 100 million views on YouTube.
All of the buzz surrounding Martinez landed the star a contract with Atlantic Records. Expanding on the success of “Dollhouse,” she recorded an EP under the same now. In 2015, Melanie Adele Martinez released a full-length studio album, Crybaby, which went platinum in February of 2017. On the album, she has a song titled “Pity Party” which has been certified gold. What’s so notable about “Pity Party” is it samples the chorus of “It’s My Party” by Leslsey Gore.
Melanie has big aspirations for her next album. She wants to create a movie that goes along with each song on the album.
